Hagar heard the voice of the angel of the Lord twice in her life. Did that make up for all her troubles? Genesis 16:7-12; 21:8-21

Reckon yourself, imagine yourself, create a picture of yourself, dead to sin and alive to God! Romans 6:1-11

What God speaks to me in the dark hours, what God whispers to me in the quiet, this is what I tell. Matthew 10:24-39

Thoughts about Listening

I think it is important to listen to children and youth also, to give them the gift of listening. Genesis 21:8-21

Today, try listening more attentively to your best friend. Hear his or her investments, recognize them, and name them honorably. Psalm 86:1-10, 16-17

I can change my self-image if I choose to. I've been given the magic gift of imagination. I can imagine a new me. Romans 6:1-11

It requires quiet time to listen to yourself well. Make time to give yourself that gift. Matthew 10:24-39

Bible Reading Group Homework

1.    Who didn’t have time to listen to you when you were a child. Tell and listen to others tell.

2.    Read or listen to Psalm 86:1-10, 16-17. If you can claim with the Psalmist to be “poor and needy,” then you can also claim with the Psalmist God’s ear, listening to you. Tell and discuss how it was for you last time you used God’s ear.

3.    Read or listen to Genesis 16:7-12; 21:8-21. Who had God’s ear in these two instances? Draw, dramatize, or poeticize the two stories, noticing and discussing similarities and differences.

4.    Read or listen to Romans 6:1-11. Paul pictures a public rite of baptism and a private rite of imagination (“reckon yourself dead . . . and alive”). Discuss who listens and who is impacted.

5.    Read or listen to Matthew 10:24-39. List the things the disciple is asked to do in this reading. Re-read and ponder the passage to discover additional things the disciple might be asked to do. Describe which of those things has a place in your actions. Which of those things will you make use of God’s ear to discuss with God this week?

1. ¿Cuando era niño, quién no tuvo tiempo para escucharlo? Comente y escuche a otros.

2. Leer o escuchar el Salmo 86:1-10, 16-17. Si puede reclamar junto con  el salmista que es "pobre y necesitado", entonces también puede reclamar junto con el salmista que el oído de Dios, lo escuche. Cuénte y discuta cómo fué  para usted la última vez que usó el oído de Dios para que lo escuchara.

3. Leer o escuchar Génesis 16:7-12; 21:8-21. ¿A quién escuchaba  Dios en estos dos casos? Dibujar, dramatizar o poetizar las dos historias, observando y discutiendo similitudes y diferencias.

4. Leer o escuchar Romanos 6:1-11. Pablo imagina un rito público de bautismo y un rito privado de imaginación  ("imaginarse muerto... y vivo"). Discuta quién escucha y quién es impactado.

5. Leer o escuchar Mateo 10:24-39. Enumero las cosas que el discípulo debe hacer en esta lectura. Vuelva a leer y reflexione sobre el pasaje para descubrir las cosas adicionales que el discípulo podría ser llamado a hacer. Describa cuál de esas cosas tiene un lugar en sus acciones.  ¿Para cuál de esas cosas pedirá  que  el oído de Dios le escuche y  discutir con Él esta semana?
