God stood by Moses in his old age, helped him look forward not backward. Reminds me of Psalm 71, the psalm for aging. Deuteronomy 34:1-12
The Psalm of Moses is a prayer about the shortness of life. "O satisfy us early," he puts in our mouths to pray. Read more of Psalm 90.
Not with trickery or flattery, or from greed or neediness, the preaching of the Gospel is not to please people, but to please God. 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6
One issue in these two stories is the prioritizing of love between Lord and fellow humans. The Messiah would be both. Matthew 22:34-46

If you will listen to yourself, you really do know the next step to firm up and establish the work you are doing right now. Psalm 90:1-6; 13-17
Greed or neediness can color communication. There are practices to manage them. 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6
In an interview, someone may ask for five words or three words that describe you. Can you get it down to two or one? Matthew 22:34-46
Bible Reading Group Homework
1. When was the last time you had opportunity to give place to a line cutter? What did you do and how did you feel about it?
2. Read or listen to Deuteronomy 34:1-12. Who was with Moses in the last hours of his life? In these last hours, did Moses look forward or backward on his life? Read Psalm 71 and discuss trusting God during aging and what it would look like for you to “end well.”
3. Read or listen to Psalm 90. Moses wrote this Psalm. Consider and discuss the phrases that match or do not seem to match a long, long life such as Moses had.
4. Read or listen to 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6. Name and discuss some things Paul claimed were not part of his preaching.
5. Read or listen to Matthew 22:34-46. Discover the contexts in the Old Testament for what Jesus quoted here (Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:8; Psalm 110:1). Are there other laws by which you operate besides these two? Of the two, which is the first or higher commandment? Do you think humans ever confuse the two? Why do you or do you not think that the next question Jesus asked was appropriate and effective for the conversation? Describe in your group who Jesus is to you.
