Moses, unlike any other prophet, heard from God face to face. But God said God would raise up another prophet like Moses. We usually think that was fulfilled in Jesus. Deuteronomy 18:15-20

Paul says: We know, but be careful because knowledge can make you feel superior and it's not about one being better than another, but about loving each other. 1 Corinthians 8:1-13

Jesus had authority in His teaching and over spirits, so much that Mark had to use two different words, synonyms, to express the astonishment and amazement of the people. Mark 1:21-28

Thoughts about Listening

At which communication do you excel: Face to face? Virtual presence? Voice only? Written words with picture? Written words in short bursts? Written words in mail, email, or book? Deuteronomy 18:15-20

Justice and fairness sometimes wants to exclude mercy and compassion. Would you say your solutions are more toward fairness or more toward compassion? Psalm 111

Knowledge might get me a job or a promotion or a career, but if it gets me an attitude of superiority, all those other things don't matter in the end. 1 Corinthians 8:1-13

Many ways to use slides in presentation. First, before deciding on a method, ask yourself, Do you want to use slides primarily for authority? or for suggestion/memory? Mark 1:21-28

Bible Reading Group Homework

1.    Is there someone who has clearly earned authority in your home, business, church, or community? Tell in your group how that person earned that authority.

2.    Read or listen to Deuteronomy 18:15-20. Compare Exodus33:11; Numbers 12:6-8; and Deuteronomy 34:10 to learn why Moses had authority. Then find the words and phrases in Deuteronomy 18:15-20 that express hope for another who will have similar authority.

3.    Read or listen to Psalm 111. To whom is being credited authority in this psalm? How was it earned? Count the times you read “works” in this psalm? How is this a theme here?

4.    Read or listen to 1 Corinthians 8:1-13. Describe or demonstrate what you picture of something being “puffed up.” Find some synonyms and re-tell the first verse in your own words. Discuss what you do with feelings of importance or superiority.

5.    Read or listen to Mark 1:21-28. Who had authority in this reading? Describe the two different settings where this authority was earned. Who has authority in your personal, home, church, or community life? How have they earned it?
